Nigeria Poor regulatory on Wireless, Causes Persistent Signal Interference Says Experts

Communication and security experts have linked the persisting wireless signal interference in Nigeria to absence of expertise or weak regulatory mechanism from the relevant agencies.
This was one of the highlights of the just-concluded “Energy of Sound Conference 2016” in Abuja.

The conference was organised by the Acti-Tech Limited and its German counterpart, Bayerdynamics.
According to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Acti-Tech Limited, Engineer Peter Madu, Nigeria does not enforce or comply with a uniform frequency, leading to the interference and disruption of wireless signals in the country.
Madu said: “The problem of wireless signal interference in the country is as a result of weak or absence of regulatory mechanisms.
“This is more so in the consumer products category such as wireless microphones and routers, which can be a source of nuisance to other users.”
Speaking on the conference, Madu explained that the aim is to ensure a long-term technology transfer and introduction of quality products in sound system and other communication products that can stand the test of time. He said: “We don’t want a country that will continue to grow in consumption of technologies but bring the manufacturers closer to the people, interact with our people, deepen their knowledge and experience in these products and have their own visions and dreams.
“Every great enterprise starts with a dream.
“You can see it in the close up discussion and interaction with manufacturers.
“We expect that Nigerians will go with the dream that they too can start from somewhere.
“You saw the history of Beyerdynamic.
“It didn’t start big and technology transfer primarily the target and then product availability.
“We have become a dumping ground for fake products.
“What we are doing is not just technology transfer but also knowledge of alternatives that will meet our needs without issues every now and then, which is usually costly in the end.”
Madu said Nigeria is a huge market of 170 million people but needs the right infrastructural development, constant power supply, conducive and environmental regulatory framework to maximise its potentials.
According to Madu: “The maiden ‘Energy of Sound Conference West Africa’ organised in partnership with the leading manufacturer of Professional Audio Systems, Beyerdynamic GmbH of Germany, will help to bring the right technology to the country.
“Energy of Sound West Africa 2016 provides you with the opportunity to be acquainted with the most current products in Public Address Systems, Sound Engineering, Conferencing and Multimedia Presentation Systems.
“It is a platform for interacting with high ranking professionals, decision makers and solutions providers from all over the country and the sub region.”
Also speaking, the Managing Director, Global Sales and Marketing, Beyerdynamics, Robert Winterhoff, said “Nigeria is a thriving country” for quality products.
Winterhoff said low quality microphone, audio systems and communications technology have caused a lot of embarrassment to leaders and organisers of events.
He said: “We are known for quality technology and bringing you some of the best products in the world.
“I am not in a business of cost but of quality and quality becomes cheaper over time.”
