Mr. Sibeudu Says Nigerian Constitution Not Fair To Deputy Governors

The immediate past deputy governor of Anambra State, Mr. Emeka Sibeudu is unhappy with the role assigned to the deputy governors in the country’s constitution, which made them mere spare tyres, arguing that it was for that reason that friction often existed between some governors and their ambitious deputies.

Former Deputy Governor, Emeka Sibeudu Speaking in an interview in Awka yesterday, Sibeudu however said that deputy governors, who properly understood what the law provided for them, never had any friction with their governors as they waited for their bosses to assign them roles at their discretion.

He cited example with himself, adding that because he read the constitution properly on assumption of duty and saw that it was the governor that was fully in charge and had to remain totally loyal and performed duties assigned to him by the governor.

The former deputy governor, who is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state argued that since the governor and his deputy were elected on one ticket, there ought to be more constitutional provisions for the deputy governors to keep the two busy while in office.
