President Kenyatta Of Kenya Receives Indian PM Narendra Modi At State House



President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday morning received Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at State House, Nairobi. The Indian PM received an elaborate state reception complete with a 19-gun salute. He then inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Kenya Air Force. On Monday morning, the Indian leader began the second and final day of his visit by laying a wreath at the mausoleum of the founding father of the nation Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.



On his arrival at State House, he was received by his host President Uhuru Kenyatta. Other dignitaries who received him were Deputy President William Ruto, several Cabinet secretaries and Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces Gen. Samson Mwathethe.

President Kenyatta and the Indian PM will later lead their delegations in bilateral talks at State House.

After the bilateral talks, the two leaders will hold a joint press briefing. In the afternoon, they address a Kenya-India business forum.

The Indian leader visit is expected to deepen trade between the two countries and help reduce the huge trade imbalance which is in favour of India.

India exports goods worthy Sh116 billion against Kenya’s Sh4 billion.

Mr Modi, who is on a State Visit, arrived in the country Sunday afternoon and headed directly to Safaricom Kasarani Sports Complex where together with his host President Kenyatta, addressed the Indian community in Kenya.

Prisoner escapes in Benin city

An inmate on Wednesday morning escaped from the court where he was taken to for his trial. The unidentified inmate, escaped from the watchful eyes of prison officials who took him and other inmates to court. The prisoner, an awaiting trial inmate in Oko medium prison, Benin, escaped at the premises of the state high court, Benin. A prison official who spoke with The reporter under the condition of anonymity, said prison warders have been sent to go after the escaped prisoner. Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Edo command of the Nigerian Prison Services (NPS), Mr Aminu Suleiman declined speaking to journalists on it. The spokesman, who could neither deny nor confirm the report, said he was not in a position to speak on the issue. Suleiman said that the state commander of the NPS, Mr Effiom Etowa, was out of the state on official assignment.
