Forgive & Forget,Stop Going Back To How You Were Overthrown, Owie Tells Buhari

FORMER Chief Whip of the Senate and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Rowland Owie, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to be grateful to God for making it possible for him to be the president of the country, rather than going back to the past on how he was toppled in 1985.

In a statement yesterday, Senator Owie asked Buhari to face governance for which he was elected by Nigerians. According to him, Buhari should govern with the fear of God and not concern himself with vendetta, just as he frowned at a situation where the president could not acknowledge former President Goodluck Jonathan during the commissioning of the Abuja- Kaduna rail line, knowing full well that the project was executed by Jonathan.

He said: “I urge President Buhari to face the job for which he was elected by Nigerians and stop chasing shadows. He should know that among those who worked for his success in the 2015 general election were many Nigerians whose parents, friends, well wishers were unjustly imprisoned by Buhari’s regime of 1984.

“They all supported him in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015, because the only thing that helps any human community to move forward and develop is forgiveness and letting bygone be bygone.

“For Buhari to be talking about issues of 1984 when God has given him victory in a democratic election, which by the antecedents of his first coming, did not, by human standard, deserve, he ought to be daily grateful to God, his party that gave him ticket and Nigerians that voted for him.”

Prisoner escapes in Benin city

An inmate on Wednesday morning escaped from the court where he was taken to for his trial. The unidentified inmate, escaped from the watchful eyes of prison officials who took him and other inmates to court. The prisoner, an awaiting trial inmate in Oko medium prison, Benin, escaped at the premises of the state high court, Benin. A prison official who spoke with The reporter under the condition of anonymity, said prison warders have been sent to go after the escaped prisoner. Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Edo command of the Nigerian Prison Services (NPS), Mr Aminu Suleiman declined speaking to journalists on it. The spokesman, who could neither deny nor confirm the report, said he was not in a position to speak on the issue. Suleiman said that the state commander of the NPS, Mr Effiom Etowa, was out of the state on official assignment.
